Factory Life- send me your memories

EMAIL the Editor

Factory life was mainly very repetitive but at other times it was exciting. After the completion of an an
Application Form and an interview with the Personnel Manager, Harold Wickens, followed by Rosina Anderson,
and the Department Manager, if successful, you were ready for a new experience.
On the first morning you would be met by a Training Instructor who gave you a quick tour of the mill and pointing
out the important places such as the cloakrooom and Canteen. However, probably you had to
obtain a new overall, say Hello to a few strangers, and by then it was morning break time in the Canteen.
There were so many different areas in this very large building that Factory life could depend
entirely on where you were working, what you worked at and who your mates were.
I have listed a few of these areas and invite former employees to give us a few post-its of the Factory Life which they enjoyed.

Gardening
There is no doubt that the Berkshire Gardens were superb. An ideal place to enjoy a Sunday-walk or even have Wedding pictures taken. My fondest memory is the sight of Jimmy McKnight cutting the grass, with fast moving piece of machinery. Jimmy was always happy and smiling and sported a string-vest for what was indeed warm workj/
